Shemer - Land Owner and Namesake of Samaria
Shemer is known only as the former land owner and namesake for Samaria. He owned the hill that he sold to the King Omri of Israel (Divided). Omri then built the capital city of Samaria upon that hill. King Omri named the city after Shemer using a similar Hebrew name of Shomron. Shemer means "guard" while Shomron means "watchtower" or "place of watching". Samaria is derived from the Greek version of Shomron.
